Superintendent Tina McCoy would like to share information about two warrant articles related to energy efficiency projects that will be on the ballot at the upcoming Town Meeting vote.
Article 5 would allow the School Board to enter into a multi-year lease purchase to install energy efficiency equipment, and make building and facility improvements at the Iber Holmes Gove Middle School and Raymond High School.
This agreement would not exceed $1,743,064. This amount would be paid over time, and residents are being asked to raise $125,216 for the first year’s lease payment.
Going forward, the District will have guaranteed $65,738 in energy savings, which will go towards future leases. After the first year, the expected future budget impact will be $59,478.
These improvements would include HVAC control upgrades, LED lighting, four new boilers, walk-in coolers, the removal of two oil tanks and new transformers.
“We can put the entire project out to bid, as well as each sub-project, in order to ensure the best possible value for the community,” Director of Facilities and Safety Todd Ledoux said.
The estimated tax impact is $0.13 per thousand for the first year. Going forward, the estimated tax impact will be $0.06 per thousand.
Article 6, if approved, would place $150,000 in the existing Equipment, Facilities Maintenance and Replacement Capital Reserve Fund for energy saving equipment and building improvements. The money would be used to pay off the lease early, or used for other energy efficiency projects.
The article would be funded by the undesignated fund balance and would not have any tax impact if passed. The article will only go into effect if Article 5 is passed.
Voting on the articles will take place on March 10 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Iber Holmes Gove Middle School, 1 Stephen K. Batchelder Parkway.
