Students and teachers at Lamprey River Elementary School have found success during remote learning this school year thanks to the new technology available in the classroom.
Since the start of the school year, Lamprey River Elementary School Principal Laura Yacek has been working closely with Technology Director Kevin Federico and the members of the Technology Department to provide teachers with new technology in the classroom, including Promethean boards that help to improve connection and interaction with students participating in remote learning. The Promethean board allows teachers to see their students better than on a laptop screen while allowing for increased engagement from students thanks to the interactive software the boards provide.
“Our teachers at Lamprey River Elementary School are going above and beyond to find new and exciting ways to reach their students both in our hybrid classrooms and our fully-remote classrooms,” Principal Laura Yacek said. “These new promethean boards have given our teachers the ability to better teach their students who are accessing their learning from home.”
Along with the boards, teachers are also utilizing OWL Cameras, which respond to voice, focusing on the person who is talking so that remote students at home can better distinguish who is talking during a lesson.
Similarly, staff are also using a SWIVL device, which holds an iPad on a stand and rotates in the direction of someone who is speaking. The teacher and students both have microphones that connect to the SWIVL via Bluetooth allowing the teacher to move around the room and the SWVL will follow them.
“Our staff and teachers have done a great job implementing and utilizing different technologies that help to provide the best possible learning experience for our students during the pandemic,” Superintendent Tina McCoy said. “I’m beyond proud of the creative solutions they’ve come up with to help keep students engaged when learning remotely and to provide an opportunity for students in the classroom to interact with their peers who are learning remotely.”
