I was in a preschool class where the students were working in stations. One group was working with the teacher on numbers. Another group was identifying the letter “e” on sheet of letters, and a third group was at a station with tactile objects in a play setting. It was amazing to see that the students were all engaged, calmly working and listening to what they were asked to do. These students are only 3-4 years old, so it was an impressive class to watch. One of the students saw me come in and said “No, it’s not pick-up time yet!” Clearly they were enjoying learning. – Ellen

Upcoming School Board Meetings
The School Board is holding two meetings this week. On Monday evening, they’re meeting with the Board of Selectmen to discuss Town and School priorities together. Then they’re holding their regular meeting on Wednesday evening. At that meeting, students and staff representing the music program at each of our schools will be there to share with the School Board. Following that, the Board will be reviewing and taking action on our revised Professional Development Master Plan to be submitted to the State. The Board will then be taking up the subject of food service outsourcing, followed by a discussion about School Board members and possible conflicts of interest. They’ll discuss a date to meet with the incoming Superintendent, and what topics should be covered at that meeting. The Board will also be reviewing two proposed revised policies: A revision to EEA Student Transportation Services updates our policy to adhere to new law specifying the right of charter school students to in-district transportation. Revised policy EEAA Video and Audio Surveillance on School Property makes some clarifications about the use of videos at school events, in light of the law passed awhile back which restricted videotaping in classrooms.
You can see both agendas, as well as all School Board public backup information for these meetings, at http://www.sau33.com/agenda.

Granite State College is offering a para-educator workshop on Saturday, April 29th. “Many resources are available for working with and supporting the children who thrive within the traditional system and follow the expected developmental milestones. But what about those children who do not? The information is delivered in plain language so you can lead your most frustrated and misunderstood children toward significance and success.” Fee: $15. 3 CEU’s.
